My name is Heather. I am a transplanted Chicago girl who lives in Northwest New Jersey. I have been married to Alan since 1997 and we have two adopted children from the NJ Foster Care System. Allison came into our family at 5 months old in 2002 and Nathanael joined us at 9 months old in 2004. I graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation (don’t know what that is? Me neither! The economy dried up and so did those jobs). So, I was working in a hospital as an Office Coordinator but really felt called to ministry. I didn’t know where that was going to go and then I got a phone call asking me to apply for a teaching job at a local Christian School. I didn’t get it but I did get another job teaching K-8th grade computer science at a different Christian school. I was good with computers and I had a Bachelor’s degree. That’s all they needed to take a chance on someone with absolutely no teaching experience. And? I loved it! I taught there for a year and half before God answered our prayers for a child. And my life has NEVER been the same since.
I am an aspiring author. I have one children’s book that is in the “ready to be illustrated” phase and a young readers book that is still a work in progress. It has been a dream since I was little that I would be a published author someday. I may be for…for…forty-one (man, that was hard to say) but my dream will never die. I believe it will happen one day. I dreamed that I would be the first in my family to graduate college and I followed through with only a few interruptions…leukemia, a move across the country, a marriage. (I’ll get to the leukemia part in one of my blog entries one of these days)
I look forward to sharing with you life lessons that I have learned over the years. I have a lot more to learn but I’m armed and ready.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.
