My name is Heather. I am a transplanted Chicago girl who lives in Northwest New Jersey. I have been married to Alan since 1997 and we have two adopted children from the NJ Foster Care System. Allison came into our family at 5 months old in 2002 and Nathanael joined us at 9 months old in 2004.  I graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation (don’t know what that is? Me neither! The economy dried up and so did those jobs). So, I was working in a hospital as an Office Coordinator but really felt called to ministry. I didn’t know where that was going to go and then I got a phone call asking me to apply for a teaching job at a local Christian School. I didn’t get it but I did get another job teaching K-8th grade computer science at a different Christian school. I was good with computers and I had a Bachelor’s degree. That’s all they needed to take a chance on someone with absolutely no teaching experience. And? I loved it! I taught there for a year and half before God answered our prayers for a child. And my life has NEVER been the same since.

I am an aspiring author. I have one children’s book that is in the “ready to be illustrated” phase and a young readers book that is still a work in progress. It has been a dream since I was little that I would be a published author someday. I may be for…for…forty-one (man, that was hard to say) but my dream will never die. I believe it will happen one day. I dreamed that I would be the first in my family to graduate college and I followed through with only a few interruptions…leukemia, a move across the country, a marriage. (I’ll get to the leukemia part in one of my blog entries one of these days)

I look forward to sharing with you life lessons that I have learned over the years. I have a lot more to learn but I’m armed and ready.

God Bless!

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.

  1. Heather – really excited to find your blog from your guest post today. I am the admin of a FB group for Philly Area Moms Through Adoption – we have a handful of NJ, DE, and even MD moms there who are a part of what we’re doing. I’d love to have you a part of things there if you’d like – there are some other moms via the foster system as well as all sorts of adoptions. Also, let me know if you ever want to try guest blogging at We Are Grafted In – Glad to connect!

    • Hi Kelly! I am so glad that you came across my blog as well. As you will see, I’m just getting started. I had so many things written down and no one to share them with. So, that’s when my friend suggested that I start a blog. I would be honored to be a guest blogger at We Are Grafted In. I just read a few of your posts….spoke right to me. We serve an amazing God. Thankfully he is also gracious and full of mercy. Hence, the reason for my title “I am forgiven and loved….and far from perfect.”

After the holiday, I’ll get in touch with you via email after I’ve had a chance to read through more of your site and check out your FB group. I really am so glad to have “met” you and I look forward to contributing as well as receiving via your blog and group. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
